While driving down Airport Road the other day I realized that this must be confusing to visitors from out of town. Imagine rushing to catch a flight out of the Colorado Springs Airport and realizing that Airport Road doesn't go to the Airport! Longtime locals know it once went to the airport, but not anymore. Maybe we should change the name to "Used To Go To The Airport Road"! So Sunday afternoon I took your calls at
52-88-CAT to see if you could come up with more misnamed streets. Here are a few of your responses. Tony called to point out that Palmer Park Blvd. does not go to Palmer Park. It runs parallel to the park about a mile off course! Jason brought to our attention that Circle Drive forms a half-circle. Shouldn't we call it "Semi-Circle Drive"? Irene warns us not to take Fountain Boulevard if your destination is the town of Fountain. Eric said "wouldn't you expect more trees on Woodmen Road"? (not to mention more big guys wearing flannel shirts carrying chainsaws). Yvonne lives on Western Avenue, which oddly enough is located on the east side of town. Joy called to ask the meaning of the oddly named Cache La Poudre St. We found out it's French for "stash the powder" (Tammy Faye Baker must live on that street).
Lisa brought up the irony of the corner of Nevada and Las Vegas. Wouldn't you expect bright lights and a few casinos? None are to be found at that intersection. If you come up with more let me know. Well, I've got to go now. I'm going to drive down Pikes Peak Avenue and see if it takes me to the summit of the famous mountain!
See ya on the radio!!!
