WARNING!

Saturday February 28th is my birthday. I'm not telling you this so you'll rush out and buy me expensive gifts. Rather consider it a warning!
It is an annual event that goes back to the day I was born. Since then each and every year, on the anniversary of my birth, I spend the entire day wearing nothing but my birthday suit. If it's good enough for my creator to dress me in, it's good enough to wear in 2009. Besides it still fits! Sure there were times during my childhood when I wished I didn't have to go to school on my birthday. I prayed that my birthday would fall on a weekend. Sure it's cold sometimes (why in the heck couldn't I have been born in July?). But, I've pulled it off so far and have never been arrested. So if you see me driving down the road in my candy apple red Ford
F-150, look the other way! If you are a friend or coworker who occasionally drops by to see me in the Cat studio, avoid it on Saturday from 10AM-3PM. Consider yourself warned!

The Your Life Awards

In honor of the Academy Awards, on Sunday afternoon, on Cat Country 95.1 I posed this question: "If they were to make a movie about your life, based on a country song, which song would you choose and what actor or actress would play you"? Here are some of your responses: Dave from the east side of the Springs chose "Feel That Fire" from Dirks Bentley because he loves to barbecue. TV chef Emeril Lagasse would play him. Ellen from the Springs liked "Hey Cinderella" by Suzy Bogguss, with Suzanne Somers in the lead role. Why? Because life is never as easy as it is in a fairy tale and everyone tells her she looks like Suzanne Somers. Libby in Pueblo
selected "Redneck Woman" (for obvious reasons) starring Jessica Simpson as Libby. Michelle in Cascade called to say that "What Was I Thinking" by Dirks Bentley best describes her life. Josh in Black Forest chose "Shameless" by Garth Brooks with Russell Crowe in the lead. Of course Farley from Peyton had to chime in with Toby Keith's "Get Drunk and Be Somebody" and Farley chose Otis the town drunk from the old Andy Griffith show to play him in the movie!

Misnamed Streets

While driving down Airport Road the other day I realized that this must be confusing to visitors from out of town. Imagine rushing to catch a flight out of the Colorado Springs Airport and realizing that Airport Road doesn't go to the Airport! Longtime locals know it once went to the airport, but not anymore. Maybe we should change the name to "Used To Go To The Airport Road"! So Sunday afternoon I took your calls at
52-88-CAT to see if you could come up with more misnamed streets. Here are a few of your responses. Tony called to point out that Palmer Park Blvd. does not go to Palmer Park. It runs parallel to the park about a mile off course! Jason brought to our attention that Circle Drive forms a half-circle. Shouldn't we call it "Semi-Circle Drive"? Irene warns us not to take Fountain Boulevard if your destination is the town of Fountain. Eric said "wouldn't you expect more trees on Woodmen Road"? (not to mention more big guys wearing flannel shirts carrying chainsaws). Yvonne lives on Western Avenue, which oddly enough is located on the east side of town. Joy called to ask the meaning of the oddly named Cache La Poudre St. We found out it's French for "stash the powder" (Tammy Faye Baker must live on that street).
Lisa brought up the irony of the corner of Nevada and Las Vegas. Wouldn't you expect bright lights and a few casinos? None are to be found at that intersection. If you come up with more let me know. Well, I've got to go now. I'm going to drive down Pikes Peak Avenue and see if it takes me to the summit of the famous mountain!
